A bit about Vitamin C…

Vitamin C is an amazing ingredient for the skin. It helps to build collagen, prevent premature ageing, even out skin tone and decrease pigmentation. It is an overall super ingredient for all skin types.

There are many forms of vitamin C but the one usually used and known by most consumers is L ascorbic acid.

The main problem with L ascorbic acid (and other forms of vitamin c) is that it causes skin sensitivity, often instantaneously or sometimes with continued use.  Being acidic in nature it can cause inflammation, skin burning and also a thinning of the skin.

Another problem with most vitamin C (including L ascorbic acid) is that it will not reach the dermis because it is water-soluble.  Our skin is lipid (oil) rich and therefore it will not allow the molecules to penetrate the skin fully, but rather sit on top of the skin

Another major problem is that vitamin C is highly unstable and oxidizes very quickly (you never really know if it’s actually doing its job or the reverse – until it changes colour) It can be stabilized for longer with certain ingredients, however with without continued analysis this is difficult to understand, so we prefer to use a more stable and more effective version.

A lesser known form of vitamin C that I completely love, love, love for many reasons, is the more expensive and more effective ‘tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate’.

It does not cause skin sensitivity at all! No tingling, no burning and in fact helps with inflammation because it is gentle.  Being gentle does not mean less powerful! In fact it is so much more powerful and potent than any other form of vitamin C.

It has been proven to deeply penetrate into the dermis because it is lipid soluble and therefore passes the lipid barrier of the skin.  It has also been proven to stimulate more collagen than it’s counterparts, being more anti-ageing and more effective.

It is super stable and does not oxidize so you do not have to worry about your product going off. It has been proven to fade pigmentation more effectively than other forms of vitamin c, giving a more even and glowing skin tone. Cell viability is increased up to 30% compared to l-ascorbic acid.

Tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate is way more expensive than L ascorbic acid (which is actually a very cheap ingredient), but believe me when I say “your skin will reap the benefits” and because of its potency you can actually use less product.

If you truly want the best for your skin and you want guaranteed results then this is the best vitamin C serum for your skin. Normally used between 1-7%, off course we use far greater percentages in our products so your skin will instantly understand the difference!
