First, we need to address the issue: The skin on your lips, compared to the rest of your body, is thin. This makes the redness of the blood vessels more prominent and this is where your lips get their obvious red shade. Due to the delicate nature of the skin on your lips, we need to make sure we take extra care in keeping them soft and plump.
Chapped or dark lips occur due to a number of reasons. Some of which are; lack of hydration, excessive UV exposure, allergic reactions, hormonal imbalances or continuous licking and biting of lips. Here are a few easy tips to keep your lips happy and smiling, with a little tender loving care, you can have the perfect pout!
Exfoliate… Try our lip scrub
Your skin is the largest organ in the body and is replaced constantly by a new layer of cells. This process helps your skin remain soft and supple. However, often the top layer is not shed completely resulting in dull and lifeless skin.  Try Shirley Conlon Organics Lip Scrub, (olive oil, coffee, shea butterand dates) at least once per week to shed away dead cells and dry skin from your lips. Apply a layer on your lips, scrub in a circular motion and lick off! We use only edible ingredients in our skincare.
Choose an all-natural lip balm and reapply often
Once you exfoliate, make sure you douse your lips with a good moisturizing lip balm, which will restore the moisture to your pout. Keep your lip balm at hand always! Applying it often is the trick. When applying your night creams or serums, do not miss your lips. Apart from our lip balmYou can also use any of our serums or our eye cream or eye glow for an extra intense lip treatment, because all of our ingredients are edible and clean.
Avoid biting and licking lips
Saliva contains many enzymes that dry out the lips, so resist the urge to lick your lips. Biting can also lead to chapped, dry lips and sometimes even leads to abrasions. Each time you bite them or lick them, they are affected directly. Stop biting or licking your lips!
Stay hydrated
It is recommended to drink at least 8 glasses per day. I am not a great advocate for water drinking so I try to break this down into 4 sections of my day. 2 glasses in the morning, 2 before lunch, 2 before dinner and 2 before bed. Try a routine that works for you but just remember to stay hydrated.
Adorn your lips with a little extra love and you will end up with the baby-soft, pink lips you want and earned!
