What are the Benefits of Hyaluronic Acid?

Who doesn’t want fresh, glowing, plumped up skin? Hyaluronic acid holds the key to smooth, hydrated, and glossy skin.

Hyaluronic acid (HA)  is found naturally in the skin, where it binds to water keeping your skin hydrated. It is the most effective moisturizer known to man being able to hold 1,000 times its weight in water.

Hyaluronic acid depletes with age, excessive uv damage and environmental factors. Supplementing Hyaluronic acid both internally and topically helps your skin with firmness and glow.

At SCO, we are excited about behind-the-scenes work to bring you the best of a hyaluronic acid serum. It was important for us that this maintained it’s clean and vegan status.

Shirley says, “The hyaluronic acid serum was born out of frustration for my daughter’s skin. She’s a teenager and suffered badly with breakouts. A lot of this was off course due to an adolescent hormonal imbalance and this serum has tremendously helped to calm her skin. I also use it a hydrating and antioxidant serum for it nourishing and pro-youth benefits and to enhance that beautiful organic glow.”

If you’re wondering what’s it all about, here we go!

What is hyaluronic acid?

HA is vital in maintaining skin hydration. Also known as hyaluronan, HA is a gooey substance found in the cells and serves as a water reservoir of cells. It’s naturally occurring in the human body and acts as a magnet for moisture. It helps your cells retain as much moisture as possible so that your skin feels hydrated, healthy, and plump.

How is it made?

Hyaluronic acid is made using bio-fermentation of plant matter which contains wheat peptones, yeast, and glucose obtained from non-gmo corn. In this process, hyaluronic acid will only have plant-derived DNA, so it’s vegan and non-GMO.

Does it actually penetrate the skin?

Hyaluronic acid comes in many molecular weights and it depends on what it used, whether it penetrates the skin or not. In our serum it was important for us to use a blend of multi-molecular weights in order to both penetrate the skin to the cellular level and also to sit on the surface of the skin and attract moisture to the skins surface

We supercharge this serum with cosmeceutical Niacinamide B3 to improve ageing and photodamage and increase hydration. Clinical studies have shown this ingredient to improve moisture, reduce fine lines and pigmentation and stimulate collagen synthesis strengthening the skins barrier.

We also supercharge this serum with PhytoGlycogen, which when used alongside hyaluronic acid, hugely increases the benefits and effects of HA – creating a powerhouse product. Glycogen is what give the cells power to create and stimulate new collagen. It also helps with the negative effects of UV damage. PhytoGlycogen is fast becoming THE ingredient to use in skincare.

Does hyaluronic acid dry out the skin?

Seeing the word acid, you might think HA could dry out your skin. But the opposite is true.

Unlike other acids, HA doesn’t dry out the skin. HA adores water. It is hydrophilic and helps to retain moisture. Hyaluronic acid is a powerful moisture-binding substance that gives gentle hydration to your skin where it needs it most.

What are the benefits of hyaluronic acid on the skin?

Known at the fountain of youth, hyaluronic acid helps to hydrate the skins intercellular reservoir increasing moisture levels, giving a plumped up glow to the skin while smoothing out fine lines.

Skin hydration

Being hydrophilic (water loving) it retains up to 1000 times its weight in water which can help hydration at a cellular level. If your skin is adequately hydrated, it feels super soft and looks radiant.

How and when should I use my Hyaluronic acid serum?

Hyaluronic acid can be used day and night on clean damp skin.  While the skin is slightly damp, apply a couple of drops of Hyaluronic acid serum using your fingers to gently massage into face and neck. Immediately apply a moisturizer (day) or serum (night) to seal in the moisture and get the best results. Try SCO’s Fountain of Youth Face Cream daily or any SCO serum at night to amplify the results.

Be in the moment when applying your skincare and  be consciously beautiful.
