Deodorant – Natural Vs Chemical

Shirley Conlon Organics

How do you combat sweat and odor? By using deodorants and antiperspirants?

While slathering a deodorant every morning has become second nature, at SCO’s we believe that deodorants should be used (like SPF) only when necessary. If you are staying at home or going to bed, then there is little use of using a deodorant.  In fact, we believe this is perfect time to go Natural and allow the body to detox – a natural toxic elimination process.

Chemical deodorants contain harmful substances that have toxic effects. Take a couple of minutes to research and understand the ingredients in your deodorant.

Differences between deodorants and antiperspirants

Deodorants keep your underarms smelling fresh. The damp warmth of your armpits is an ideal breeding ground for bacteria. When you sweat, bacteria on the skin digest the fats and proteins causing an unpleasant odor. Deodorants work on these bacteria to prevent unpleasant odors from escaping.

Sweat is a cooling mechanism and your armpits have a higher number of sweat glands than other areas of your body. Antiperspirants reduce underarm sweating by blocking the pores, thus reducing the amount of sweat on the skin’s surface. We believe that blocking pores is disruptive to the natural detoxification process of the body.

Chemical antiperspirants and breast cancer risk

Antiperspirants contain active aluminum-based compounds that block the sweat glands to prevent sweat from reaching your skin’s surface. Experts point out that if your skin absorbs these aluminum compounds, they may affect the estrogen receptors of breast cells.

Long term exposure of these aluminum compounds may cause alterations to DNA that could support cancer development. While a definitive link hasn’t been made yet, there’s some concern that the parabens present in deodorants and antiperspirants may also increase the breast cancer risk.

Aluminum-based antiperspirants mix with sweat and cause awkward yellow stains on clothing.  Chemical antiperspirants may kill the beneficial bacteria in your armpits, worse it may increase resistant strains that produce even worse foul-smelling sweat.

Arrowroot powder is potent enough to draw out toxins from your skin. It also serves as a thickener in deodorants to keep the formula stable and effective.

Sage essential oil has a clean, refreshing scent. With a herbaceous, earthy, and mildly nutty scent, it imparts a pleasing fragrance to the skin whilst offering antibacterialanti inflammatoryanesthetic, and antiseptic properties that help to soothe and neutralize odors

Likewise, cornstarch is a useful ingredient. It lacks scent and has superb moisture absorbing properties keeping the underarms dry without blocking pores.

Why should you try Shirley Conlon Organic natural deodorant?

Our formulas contain certified organic botanicals and clinically proven natural actives that are a healthy alternative to chemically loaded skincare.

The ingredients in our natural deodorant help to neutralize scent and offer a more natural approach to dealing with sweat.  Corn starch and arrowroot powder help to neutralize bacteria and absorb moisture – leaving you with clean, dry, and gently fragrant underarms.

These products are an alternative and natural but effective way to care for your underarms and with minimal ingredients and processing, it is comforting to know what goes onto your body.

Natural deodorants do not block pores but neutralize odor and combat the bacteria that is present.  Suitable for sensitive skin, unless you are allergic to one of the natural ingredients.

Natural deodorants fight bacteria and sweat naturally, deodorizing your armpits while giving you all-round natural protection.

Deodorize your body the organic way and be consciously beautiful.
