Do’s and Don’ts for Pimples

Do you dream of clear and radiant skin?

Some of the major causes of pimples include excessive oil production, bacterial infections, certain dietary staples, skin inflammation, and hormonal sensitivity.

Shirley Conlon Organics cares for your skin, and to help you out, we’ve listed some simple dos and don’ts for pimples. Try them and see the difference.

Do know your skin type.

Skincare is an art, and to have beautiful skin, you must know your skin type. Skin types include normal, dry, oily, acne-prone, combination, sensitive, and mature skin. People usually link oily skin to acne because excess oil is a contributor to acne.

Even if you have dry skin, you could still experience pimples due to poor skin care or environmental factors. If you have a frequent breakout, you can have acne-prone skin. Knowing your skin type helps to zero in on the right skincare products.

Do use a mild cleanser.

Go in for a mild cleanser to avoid over-drying your skin. Try our Olive and Castor Bean Cleansing Milk. It’s gentle and will not dry your skin.

Washing your face twice, once in the morning and once in the evening, is enough. Washing too much could make your pimples worse. Also, the water temperature is essential to maintain healthy skin. Skin experts recommend washing your face with warm water.

Do mind your sun exposure.

Sun exposure could lead to skin inflammation. Too much sun could lead to scarring after pimples heal. If you’re taking certain medications for acne, they could make your skin more sensitive to UV rays, making it burn faster.

Likewise, sun exposure increases the chances of premature skin aging and skin cancer. To protect your skin apply our Vitamin C Elixir.

Don’t apply harsh chemicals to your skin.

Be gentle with skincare and avoid harsh products that irritate your skin. Pat your skin dry instead of vigorous rubbing or scrubbing.

Picking, squeezing, and frequent poping increase the chances of skin inflammation, discoloration, and the risk of scarring.

Avoid touching your face often with your hands. Since you may touch different surfaces and your hands may harbor grime and bacteria, which could get transferred to your skin and increase the risk of pimples.

Do have a healthy diet.

A 2010 review says a high glycemic diet could cause acne. Junk foods, chips, and foods made with white flour, and soft drinks could increase blood sugar levels. When your blood sugar rises, it causes the body to release a hormone called insulin.

Excess insulin in the blood triggers more oil production by your oil glands, increasing the risk of acne. Eating low glycemic foods, such as whole grains, legumes, and unprocessed fruits and vegetables, significantly boost your skin health.

Likewise, keep yourself well-hydrated. Dehydration signals your oil glands to produce more oil and also gives a dull appearance. So drink at least eight glasses of water every day.

Do moisturize with oil-free and non-comedogenic products.

Moisturizing keeps skin soft and supple. But traditional moisturizers contain synthetic ingredients, oil, and other chemicals which harm your skin—nonetheless, it’s best to go in for organic moisturizers.

Avoid using heavy moisturizing creams as they tend to clog pores and aggravate pimples. To help prevent zits, use non-comedogenic and fragrance-free moisturizers after washing up or whenever your skin feels dry. A mild daily moisturizer could also be beneficial.

SCO’s Fountain of Youth Face Cream gently nourishes your skin and suits all skin types. Likewise, our Rosehip oil is easily absorbed and gives an organic botox effect.

Don’t ever sleep with your makeup on.

Sleeping with your makeup will clog pores and will lead to pimple breakouts. Your skin needs to slough off dead cells, and sleeping with your makeup on impedes this process; consequently, you’ll get a lot of congestion on your skin.

Also, it’s tempting to cover up your pimples. Doing so will clog pores and trigger outbreaks. While choosing your makeup, look for the words non-comedogenic and oil-free.

For a plump, clear, and smooth skin

Pampering your skin releases the feel-good chemicals in your brain and increases your sense of wellbeing. When you’re happy and pleased, these emotions bubble outside and help you enjoy beautiful plump skin. So take care of your skin and be consciously beautiful.
