How to Upscale Your Skincare Routine During the Coronavirus Pandemic

Though you may follow a regular skincare routine, the pandemic calls for some unique skincare. Nowadays, it’s essential to wear a mask while venturing outside your home. However, wearing a face mask causes its own set of skin problems. Likewise, you may have to wash your hands plenty of times. So it would be best if you took special care of your skin during these uncertain times.

Adopt a regular skincare routine

Pare down your makeup and concentrate on your skincare goals. Wash your face with a mild cleanser. Limit your face washing to two times a day and after sweating. Use gentle, fragrance-free cleansers for your face. Our Olive and Castor Bean Cleansing Milk would be a great addition.

Exfoliate

Exfoliation removes dead skin cells, thereby increasing blood circulation, brightening and improving your skin’s appearance. Apply the scrub with your fingertips to your face in gentle small circular motions and rinse with lukewarm water. As a general rule, exfoliating your skin one to two times a week is adequate.

Exfoliation allows for better absorption of moisturizers and serums. Try SCO’s Illuminate Face Polish.

Moisturize

Moisturize your face after cleansing. Choose products that are labeled noncomedogenic, which means they won’t clog skin pores.During this pandemic, wearing a medical mask has become compulsory. Continuously wearing a mask may cause dry skin. Applying a moisturizer adds a protective layer that can reduce dryness. A moisturizer with hyaluronic acid keeps your skin moist and healthy.

The Fountain of Youth Face Cream from SCO is enriched with Hyaluronic acid and suits every skin type.

Treat maskne

Developing breakouts is a common side effect of wearing a mask; it’s popularly called maskne (mask acne). Maskne could result from clogged pores, humidity due to breathing and sweating, friction leading to chafing and irritation, and allergy caused by the mask’s material. To reduce maskne, wash your fabric masks after every use. Remove your masks for at least 15 minutes every 4 hours to let your skin breathe.

Moisturize before wearing a mask and wash your face after wearing a mask. If possible, use masks made out of soft, breathable fabric like cotton that fits snugly and has two or more layers for protection.

Also, it’s equally important to nourish your skin. SCO offers you a Maskne kit to keep breakouts at bay.

Protect your lips

Chapped lips are one of the skin problems you face while wearing a mask. Applying a lip balm helps prevent chapped lips. Try SCO’s Organic Lip Serum. It acts as an emollient and forms a protective barrier resulting in soft, hydrated lips. Apply this lip balm after you wash your face, before putting on your mask, or retiring to bed.

Hand care

One of the essential things to protect against COVID is to keep your hands clean and free from germs. It is recommended that you wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water or try an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with 60 percent alcohol. You can try SCO’s hand sanitizer. It contains 75 percent alcohol and organic glycerin.

Frequent hand washing could result in dry and cracked skin, so be gentle on your hands and use lukewarm water to wash your hands. Avoid antibacterial cleansers. They contain fragrance and could harm your skin. Wear gloves while cleaning surfaces because disinfectants may contain harsh chemicals that could harm your skin.

After washing your hands, pat them dry and apply a moisturizer. Use a moisturizer that’s free of fragrances and dyes and a hypoallergenic one. Even if you’re hands are not chapped or dry, be sure to moisturize them. Early prevention is more effective than trying to heal later when skin becomes cracked and dry.

Try our Frangipani hand and body lotion. Delicately scented with Frangipani flowers, it deeply hydrates and nourishes your skin, locks moisture onto the skin surface, and prevents it from drying out.

Also, you can scrub your hands once a week with a simple homemade scrub. Try this mix one tablespoon each of oatmeal powder, warm water, corn starch, and coconut oil. Apply it on your hands and gently exfoliate for 30 seconds.

Likewise, it’s nice to massage your hands daily to increase blood flow. Give a gentle massage while you moisturize it. Protect your cuticles by applying a few drops of glycerine to your hands overnight or use SCO’s multipurpose Body Balm.

Life may get busy, but have some me time and give some TLC to your skin. Pamper and nourish your skin with organic goodness and reap the rewards of plump, supple, and healthy skin. Take care and be consciously beautiful.
