The importance of regular exfoliation

Do you want to keep your complexion at the goddess level? Well, maintaining a bright visage gives your skin a beauty boost and increases your self-confidence.

A smooth, soft, and clear complexion is the result of regular exfoliation.

Here’s a tip or two for keeping your skin bright and radiant:

What is exfoliation?

Exfoliation is the removal of dead skin cells from your skin surface. Naturally, skin sheds dead skin cells to make way for new cells every 30 days or so. Many times, dead cells don’t fall off entirely. As a result, your skin can develop clogged pores and dry, flaky patches. Regular exfoliation prevents these skin problems and promotes a clear and healthy complexion.

Why is exfoliation essential to your skin?

Regular exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cells that sit on the surface of the skin, causing clogged pores and a dull, uneven texture. Exfoliating helps detoxify the skin, helping the skin regenerate more easily, removing congestion.

Likewise, dead skin cells block topical creams and serums from adequately penetrating the skin. Sloughing away dead cells from the skin surface enhances the absorption of nutrients, resulting in nourished, hydrated skin.

Benefits

Regular exfoliation boosts collagen production. Collagen is a protein that strengthens your skin and increases elasticity and hydration. Increased skin elasticity limits the appearance of fine lines and prevents sagging of skin.

Unclogging your pores not only prevents the formation of whiteheads and blackheads but also helps to maintain acne- and blemish-prone skin. To avoid breakouts, exfoliate in a gentle and nonirritating way. If you rub your skin raw in the name of blemish reduction, it will give rise to a whole new set of skin problems.

Rough texture, dark spots, acne scars, and hyperpigmentation can be frustrating to treat and regular exfoliation can help with the overall appearance and texture of your skin.

Exfoliation also stimulates lymphatic drainage and promotes internal cleansing. Likewise, it increases the flow of oxygen to the cells, increasing cellular turnover. Lymphatic drainage helps in detoxification by removing toxins and other unhealthy impurities from your skin, while enhanced blood circulation promotes cellular health to reveal glowing, healthy skin.

How and when to exfoliate

There is never a one-size-fits-all rule. You are the best judge of your own skin, and you know what works for you and what doesn’t, but as a general rule, we recommend the following for naughty teenage skin: 2-3 times per week of gentle exfoliation.

The ’20s and ’30s can suffice with once per week, and 40+ definitely needs more exfoliation due to slower cellular regeneration, so again, 2-3 times per week.

We recommend exfoliation in the evening, followed by a facemask and a lavishing application of luxurious face oils like SCO Vitamin C, Date and Collagen face elixir.
Hydrate your skin by drinking enough water to help drain toxins from the body and boost cellular renewal. Avoid exposing newly exfoliated skin to the sun, UV rays, and sunbed for 24 hours.

Conscious Beauty Exfoliation

Microbeads, which are tiny particles of plastic, are often used in exfoliation products and we urge you to avoid these types of products because of the detrimental negative effect they have on our environment. We do not believe there is any place for these harmful beads in the cosmetic industry. Opt instead for plant-based ingredients that are in total harmony with nature and are biodegradable. Fruit acids also work wonders for gentle, natural exfoliation.
