Firstly, we want you to remember that you are beautiful – and don’t you ever forget it!

We hear your frustrations, feelings of anger, anxiety, and doubts.

At Shirley Conlon Organics we understand sensitive skin.

A good and regular skincare routine will significantly improve the overall health of your skin. Our products aim to gently care for your skin, keeping oil to a minimum and keeping your skin properly cleansed, nourished and blemish free!

Gently cleanse your skin

Cleansing is key! Use a mild cleansing lotion morning and evening. We recommend the hot cloth method (organic muslin cloth dipped in hand-hot distilled or mineral water). Never rub the face aggressively. Steer clear of detergents (gels and bar soap) as they are often too harsh on the skin, disturbing the natural acid mantle which aggravates the sebaceous glands and increases oil production, causing more breakouts and blemishes. Try SCO’s PH balanced, detergent and alcohol-free, olive and castor bean cleansing milk.

Use a mild toner

Use an alcohol-free toner and cotton pad to gently remove any final traces of impurities or make-up. If you have dry skin, a hydrating toner would be the best choice. SCO’s rosewater hydrating spritz is PH balanced contains aloe vera, which acts as an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory to lock moisture onto the skin’s surface, restore hydration levels and reduce blemishes.

Hydration creams and lotions

We do not recommend the use of heavy creams for acne/blemish-prone skin. After your morning cleanse apply a lightweight moisturizing lotion like our Fountain Of Youth Face Cream and after your evening cleanse opt for a nourishing serum (not a cream) which is more readily absorbed by the skin, allowing the skin to breathe without an occlusive layer. Try SCO’s Vitamin C & Date Face Elixir which is packed with nourishing active botanicals to repair and hydrate the skin at a cellular level.

Follow a low glycemic load diet

Nourish yourself with healthy foods. Low glycemic foods include veggies, fruits, nuts (if you have no allergies), legumes, or minimally processed grains. Researchers found that participants who ate low glycemic food for 12 weeks had a significant reduction in acne and insulin sensitivity levels, enjoying a clear and smooth skin in comparison to their counterparts who ate carb-dense diets.

Listen to your skin

Keep a skin diary and write down everything that you apply to your skin including anything you eat and drink. This is a great way to investigate what is going on. For my teenage daughter, we kept a diary and we eliminated one food group at a time for two months starting with milk followed by sugar and lastly gluten. Although we visited many dermatologists and had a cupboard full of chemical topical creams, we decided to go the natural route and took an appointment with a homoeopathic doctor who prescribed some vitamins and supplements and they worked wonders.

She was prescribed vitamin D, Zinc and fish oils which definitely helped along with moderate sunshine and a gluten-free diet and an increase in green leafy vegetable and fiber. With school exams, teenage stress and hormones, she still gets breakouts but definitely less than before.

Radiate your inner beauty

Self-love, a healthy diet and a positive attitude is definitely a necessity for any skin type and especially for blemish-prone skin. Take good care of yourself, be positive, and let your inner beauty shine. Greet the world with confidence and your beautiful smile-the world longs for it.
